WALT: Make Connections
Dear David Larsen,
Hello David, in your story I enjoyed how you used aliens and the alien was the one that was scared of the human, what I didn’t like about the story was that it was very short and I never knew if the aliens ever stopped being afraid of humans. What I would change in the story is to make the story longer and add a part were the humans find out that Ash was an alien, the part that I found interesting was when Ash was talking to the human kids.

Grammar warm up: Write a sentence beginning with an -ing word. Will you need any additional punctuation?
Answer: Floating, gliding through the air as fast as lightning strikes. Yes.
What is happening here?
Answer: A boy is riding on a magic carpet feeling mesmerised by the magicalness, a dog also is next to the boy barking at the magical sight of the glowing carpet and sparkles.
Why/how is the carpet floating?
Answer: The carpet is floating because it is magical and can fly, people can sit on this carpet and ride along around the world. The carpet sends magical sparkles that make the carpet float while still.
How is the boy feeling? Was he expecting this to happen?
Answer: The boy is feeling mesmerised, scared and maybe a bit magical. He was definitely not expecting to find a magic carpet that actually would accept him to ride on it.
How is the dog feeling? How do you know?
Answer: The dog could be feeling scared, mesmerised, like in a dream or very very happy. I know this because of the dogs face and normally anyone that would see something that crazy would be mesmerised and I think that dog is that boys pet so the dog would also be able to ride it too.
Does this bedroom belong to the boy? What does the setting tell you about his character?
Answer: Yes, this bedroom belongs to the boy. The setting tells me that the boy is adventurous and likes action, he also likes space/astronauts.
What will happen next?
Answer: The boy will maybe bring his dog up with him on the magic carpet and maybe they would zoom around town and go into places by flying over fences then coming back after half an hour and going to sleep, waking up in the morning and telling the whole story to his parents.
THE FIRST FLIGHT:
How are the owls related?
Answer: The owls are related because the small owl is the kid of the big owl.
Which owl is about to take its first flight? How do you know?
Answer: The small/baby owl. I know this because if I use my own knowledge, I know that owls that big would’ve already had their first flight but owls that look like babies wouldn’t have had their first flight yet.
How does the owl feel about flying?
The owl feels a scared about flying because he could fall and that’s why he is scared.
What might it be thinking? Add a thought bubble to the picture.
Is the older owl worried?
Answer: No, the older owl is not worried, I think it is actually happy that the baby owl is about to have its first flight and you can definitely tell if you look at that face you can see all the joy.
What advice would the older owl give to the younger one?
Answer: The older owl would say to keep his/hers wings out and try to flap/glide through the cold night sky.
